2024 is closing in on us with ‘hurricane steps’ as we would say in Denmark when something is leaping forward with no stopping it.

And as for every year, there really is not way of holding off the approach of January, it is simply the turn of time.

In these final moments of 2023 I would like to extend a big thank you to you all, thank you for the past year of sharing laughter and joy, upsets and growth, it would not have been the same without you.

I had the true privilege and joy of sharing laughter with some awesome individuals and groups throughout the year, absolutely extraordinary guffaws, chuckles and giggles.

Thank you also for the many years that went before 2023, I look forward to all those that have yet to come.

With that in mind, it is time for a bit of a thought from Yours Truly…

We are at a pivotal time where change keeps closing in asking for an embrace.

The important tasks we face in business and in personal life are

  • embracing flexibility and our ability to manage, maintain, and nurture the balance living extraordinary lives requires. The responsibility on employers to offer solutions to create happy staff is a responsibility for us all, not just those who manage.
  • prioritising mental health has never been more important than now, and I encounter people daily whose voices and stories must be heard, so we can all learn and grow from supporting each other.
  • physical health goes hand in hand with our mental and emotional health, so there is no escaping looking after our body suits that we are inhabiting for such a short, borrowed time. Look after it and care for it as you would for someone you love. When you start a practice of self-care and include physical activity, eureka!, you begin to love yoursefl and everything around you cheer itself up in return.
  • cultivate a culture of connectedness is the highest priority of all. When we are part of a bigger picture everything else falls in place. We move forward together and we support each other’s endeavours to success for the greater good of everyone.

We may not all be stood on the same step of the ladder but we all have responsibility to hold each other in a safe space.

Introduction to Mental Health Awareness and Resilience with Sue and Lotte

There is more to mental health than poor mental health.

Mental health is defined by World Health Organisation (WHO) as

‘a state of wellbeing in which the individual realises their abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to their community’.

How do we maintain and nurture this state of being in a time where living has almost become a challenge in itself?

Sue Haswell and I are introducing concepts and ideas for understanding mental health and building resilience in a world of constant change, using laughter and MUCH MORE THAN laughter as methods for creating good mental health.

We will be taking you through an Introduction to Resilience and Mental Health, discussing how to spot the signs and symptoms of mental health episodes and conditions without fixing and with the aim to support and sign post.

You will discover and discuss methods you can use for building your own resilience and keep your mental health healthy so you can also help others.

Everyone has mental health but do we know how to spot changes in others and ourselves so we can seek the help needed?

Mental health is on everyone’s agenda yet it is still too often pushed aside for ‘more urgent business matters’.

This is an opportunity to find out how you can support people in your classes, training, and workshops – as well as yourself and those near and dear.

The workshop has been moved to run on Zoom on 20 January 2024 from 10:00 to 15:00, with a few breaks thrown in here and there to nurture and nourish us all.

Creating Life-changing Habits and Laughter with Sha and Lotte

Sha Hussain and I have worked together in promoting workplace wellbeing and great habits both at work and in life since 2017.

Here is what Sha tells you about his coaching and mindset journey,

I started running marathons back in 2006 to get fitter and healthier, and I haven’t looked back since.

I have ran The Speed Project, Marathon Du Mont Blanc, and 26 marathons worldwide, including four majors “London, New York, Berlin and Boston.” My first marathon was in London, where I ran in a time of 4hrs 35 minutes, and my fastest marathon was in December 2023, where I ran 3hrs 5 minutes in Valencia – this race has provided me with qualifying times for Boston, London, Chicago and New York marathons.

Running gives me the energy, motivation and confidence to succeed in all the different areas of my life – as well as the clarity of mind to troubleshoot any difficulties I face in my every day.

I firmly believe that the secret to success in running is to enjoy the process and the results will follow – I have qualified for Boston three times and have improved consistently each year.

We are back with our recipe for success, a free introductory workshop where we cover aspects of good habits and laughter in conjunction with our mental and physical health and wellbeing, on Friday 19 January from 11:00 to 12:00 on Zoom, details to follow.

Essential to change is to take bite-size steps instead of assuming we can achieve everything in half the time.

This workshop gives you ideas for how to balance the way you see yourself and your accomplishments, how to succeed every time.

Becoming a Laughter Therapist with Mel and Lotte

Becoming a Laughter Therapist requires you to already have the skills of a therapist or holistic therapist, so you have a real-life understanding and experience in how to cope with your client’s emotional release at any given time

Those skills cannot be learned online and since the programme has its roots in psychotherapy and positive psychology there is no shortcut when you choose to become a Laughter Therapist.

Melanie Bloch and I have shared laughter ad friendship since 2012, and we have worked together since 2016 when I first introduced the Laughter Therapist Training programme.

The Laughter Therapist Training runs over two and a half days but that does not complete the course.

It runs in the following way allowing you to complete within the timeframe given

  • 2-day in-person training
  • 6-12 months case study work (minimum 2 case studies to be completed, 1 group, 1 individual) finishing with a dissertation
  • 1/2 day to present your dissertation and complete the training. This day can be organised as an online or in-person meeting
